A Different Type of Explainer Video: The Arthritis Foundation Speaks to Physicians

For some folks, the term “explainer video” has evolved to mean “animation” or “motion graphics”, or even more specifically, “whiteboard video”, yet this series doesn’t use any of those styles.

The Arthritis Foundation asked us to create videos for physicians, to demonstrate best practices for explaining “biosimilars” to their patients. You’ve probably seen pharmaceutical ads on TV and streaming services that promote the use of “biologics”.  Biosimilars are FDA-approved medicines that have the same active ingredients as certain biologics, but are often much less expensive. . They have been recently approved by the FDA, and that’s why this explainer campaign is needed. We used frequently asked questions as the framework.

This series of three explainer videos was shot on location with actors. We were able to get all three of them shot in a single day, in the Arthritis Foundation offices – both choices were budget friendly for the non-profit. 

The Arthritis Foundation team provided the basic scripts to give us the content points. We were able to take dry content and create a story with three chapters, featuring a doctor and patient exploring sensitive issues. The videos are not intended to offer canned answers for physicians. Instead, they are meant to allow doctors to anticipate the kinds of questions they might get and to demonstrate an easy way to explain biosimilar medications to their patients.
